The Aston Martin Formula One team has confirmed that Jessica Hawkins, their driver ambassador, passed a test for them last week, making her the first woman to operate a modern F1 vehicle in nearly five years.

The 28-year-old drove the team’s 2021 race car, the AMR21, 26 laps around Budapest’s Hungaroring on Thursday. Hawkins, a former British karting champion, also participated in the W Series and drove a stunt car in a James Bond film.
She is presently preparing to support the team’s debut into Formula One’s all-female series, the F1 Academy, which will take place next season and feature a representative driver for each of the 10 teams and a car in their livery.

Jessica Hawkins is an English racing driver and stunt driver who was born on February 16, 1995 in Headley, East Hampshire. The 28 year old participated in both the British Touring Car Championship and the W Series in 2022.

At Silverstone, in a one-off race, Hawkins made her professional racing debut in the British Formula Ford, placing in the top 10 twice. Her impressive debut performance led Falcon Motorsport to sign her to compete in the 2015 MSA Formula Championship.
As a stunt driver for Fast and Furious Live for the most of 2018, Hawkins made a comeback in the VW Cup. After two points finishes in the final two races of the season, she switched to the newly formed women-only W Series in 2019 and finished 11th.
