Understandably, after being labeled a “hypocrite” for brokering the deal, Monahan acknowledged the criticism and attended a tense meeting with players at the Canadian Open in Toronto.

According to reports from the meeting, players who had been unaware of the merger expressed their annoyance and questioned Jay Monahan about his involvement in the arrangement. Up until the announcement on Tuesday, the players were not informed of the discussions.

Later that day, on a media conference call, Monahan accepted the inevitable criticism that would be leveled at him. He stated that although he had previously spoken out strongly against LIV Golf, things had subsequently changed.
