Jay Ersapah, the chief of risk analysis at Silicon Valley Bank (SVB), has been accused of prioritizing LGBTQ efforts, including launching safe space catch-ups for workers and preparing a month-long pride drive before SVB lost billions and failed on Friday, March 10.

In a video released nine months prior, Jay Ersapah identified as “a queer person of color from a working-class background” and expressed her pride in working for SVB, serving underrepresented entrepreneurs.

The report comes after SVB’s collapse sent investors into a panic and resulted in a market loss of $1.8 billion. This led to a significant decrease in global banking and financial equities. As a result, SVB was the biggest bank to fail since the financial crisis of 2008.

Jay Ersapah attended Queen Elizabeth College. Later, she also attended the University of Warwick where she did a bachelor of science in Economics.

Her career

Jay Ersapah started her career by doing an internship at Ernst & Young. Later, she entered Citi Graduate Programme. After this, she started her full-time career at Barclays. Afterward, she worked as a recovery and Resolution Planning Lead at Deloitte.

In 2016, she become the head Of Prudential Policy at ICBC Standard Bank. She is also a Trustee at Diversity Role Models and a Member of the Risk Advisory Committee at the Association of Foreign Banks (AFB).

In October 2020, she become the EMEA Head of Financial Risk Management and Model Risk and Co-Chair of the LGBTQ+ network at Silicon Valley Bank.
