Akari Fujinami is a Japanese freestyle wrestler who was born on November 11, 2003, in Yokkaichi, Mie, Japan. She is currently just 20-years-old, and recently won gold in the womenโs 53 kg at the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics. She has an older named Yuhi Fujinami, who is the 2017 World Wrestling Championships bronze medallist. Notably, Akari trains under her coach and father Toshikazu.

Akari Fujinami has dominated the wrestling scene in the womenโs freestyle 53 kg ever since she started competing. Ever since her loss at the National Junior High School Wrestling Championships in 2017 she has gone unbeaten, winning 137 straight national and international bouts. Fujinami won her first major gold medal in the womenโs 53 kg event at the Oslo 2021 World Wrestling Championships.
She also went on to win the gold medal in her event at the Ulaanbaatar 2022 Asian Wrestling Championships.
