Harsh Bardhan, a 26-year-old Madhya Pradesh native, was a Karnataka cadre IPS officer from the 2023 class. He was traveling in a police car when the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle due to a burst tire. According to reports, the car struck a home and a wayside tree.
While the driver was only slightly hurt, Mr. Bardhan received severe brain injuries and passed away in the hospital while receiving treatment.
Images taken on the scene revealed the police car’s severely damaged remains.

“This should not have happened when years of hard work were paying off,” said Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who also expressed his condolences to his family.
He said, “ Saddened to hear about the death of probationary IPS officer Harsh Bardhan in a horrific accident near Kittane border of Hassan-Mysuru Highway. It is very sad that such an accident happened while he was on his way to take charge as an IPS officer. This should not have happened when years of hard work were paying off,”
Before beginning his career as a DSP, 26-year-old IPS officer Harsh Bardhan died in the road accident caused by a tire burst. IPS officer Harsh Bardhan, who died in a road accident in Karnataka while on his way to take up his first posting, had cleared the civil services examination in his maiden attempt and the last rites will be performed in Bihar, said the father of the 26-year-old deceased who is posted as SDM in Madhya Pradesh.
He was a 2023-batch IPS officer of the Karnataka cadre and hailed from Madhya Pradesh. He was a civil engineering graduate from Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya and achieved 153rd rank in the UPSC examination on his first attempt, being a part of the 2022-23 Karnataka cadre IPS batch. He was single and unmarried at the time of his death.
He had recently completed his four-week training at the Karnataka Police Academy (KPA) in Mysuru and was en route to take up his first posting as the Assistant Superintendent of Police, Hassan.
Age 26 IPS Harsh Bardhan was a resident of Dosar village in the Singrauli area of Madhya Pradesh. Notably, the family of Harsh Bardhan is from Bihar, and his father, Akhilesh Kumar Singh, is a sub-divisional magistrate. By trade, Harsh Bardhan worked as a civil engineer.
Harsh Bardhan was traveling in a police car when one of the tires exploded on the way to Hassan. After suffering serious head injuries, the IPS officer was sent to Hassan’s Janapriya Hospital. He passed away from his wounds despite efforts to move him to a hospital in Bengaluru for additional care. Manjegowda, meanwhile, only sustained minor wounds.
