NTA controversy
On Saturday, June 8, Subodh Kumar Singh, the director general of the National Testing Agency (NTA), said that the Education Ministry has formed a panel to re-evaluate the results of more than 1,563 students who received grace marks in the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test, Undergraduate (NEET UG) 2024.
Within a week, he said, the panel would analyse the findings and provide a report. The exam and the institute have been surrounded by controversy ever since the NTA released the NEET UG results on June 4.
Parents, candidates, and a number of politicians have referred to the various anomalies surrounding the exam as a sophisticated fraud, particularly bringing up issues with the purported question paper leaks and the NTA’s choice to give some students “grace marks.”
Additionally, media sources claimed that some exam centres had leaked the NEET UG question paper prior to the test’s start date. After looking into one of the cases, the Bihar police’s Economic Offences Unit (EOU) discovered that parents of the children had paid almost Rs 50 lakh to have the question paper leaked. Up to thirteen individuals were detained by the EOU in Bihar, including parents and applicants.
