In Mumbai, Bhushan Gagrani, who works as the Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister’s office, has been chosen as the new BMC Commissioner.

58-year-old Bhushan Gagrani was born in 1966 in Kolhapur, Maharashtra in a Marwadi family. He is married to Dr. Sheetal Bhushan Gagrani who is a doctor working in the United Kingdom.

Bhushan Gagrani is a 1990 batch IAS officer who ranked third in the IAS exam. Gagrani has a Master’s in Commerce and a Master’s in History from Kolhapur University. He did his LLB from Nagpur University and got an MBA from Birmingham University.

Additionally, he earned a PhD in Administration from Mumbai University. In the beginning of his career, Gagrani focused on tasks involving land revenue administration, district administration, and development administration.

He served as the CEO of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar Zila Parishad, Director of the Youth Development and Sports Department in Pune, and as the District Collector of Sindhudurga District.

He accomplished significant tasks in various positions such as Managing Director of MIDC, Deputy Secretary in Mantralaya, Secretary of Maharashtra Tourism, Secretary of Medical Education and Drugs, Secretary of Public Health Department, and Managing Director of CIDCO.

Before becoming the BMC commissioner, Gagrani served as the Additional Chief Secretary at the CMO office. He also managed administrative tasks related to Urban Development, Water Resources, and Marathi Language. Earlier, he held positions as Principal Secretary in the CMO office and Urban Development department.

On Wednesday evening, Gagrani was welcomed by his predecessor Dr. Iqbal Singh Chahal and other officials including Additional Commissioner Dr. Ashwini Joshi, Dr. Amit Saini, Dr. Sudhakar Shinde, Joint Commissioner Milin Sawant, Ramesh Pawar, and Deputy Municipal Commissioner Chandrashekhar Choure.

Other important appointments

Additionally, Abhijit Bangar, former Thane municipal commissioner, has assumed the role of Additional Commissioner Project in BMC.

Bangar belongs to the 2008 batch of IAS officers and holds a degree in MA Economics. Previously, Bangar served as Assistant Collector of Mangaon, CEO of Raigad Zila Parishad, CEO of Satara Zila Parishad, Collector of Palghar, and Collector of Amravati.

Before joining BMC, Abhijit Bangar held several significant positions including Commissioner of Nagpur, Divisional Collector of Nagpur, and Navi Mumbai Commissioner. Prior to his current role, he served as the Commissioner of Thane Municipal Corporation. In 2016-17, he was honored as the best collector.

He assumed his current position from Ashwini Bhide in the absence of P. Velarasu.Dr. Amit Saini, a 2007 batch IAS officer, has assumed the role of Additional Commissioner of Eastern Suburbs, replacing Ashwini Bhide. He also holds an MBBS degree in Medicine.

He has also served in various administrative roles within the Maharashtra government, including as Joint Commissioner of Sales Tax and Maharashtra Rajya Lottery Department, and as Secretary of Vidarbha Statutory Development Corporation.
