Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla is married to Amita Birla who is a gynaecologist, and they have two children, Akanksha who is a CA and IAS officer Anjali Birla. The younger daughter, Anjali, passed the UPSC exam on her first attempt and is currently an IAS officer employed by the Ministry of Railways.

In August 2020, the Department of Personnel and Training released a Reserve List that included Anjali Birla’s name among 89 candidates from various categories including general, OBC, EWS, and SC.


Based on her merit in CSE, 2019 under Consolidated/Reserved list by Department of Personnel and Training (DoP/T), she was allocated to service in Indian Railway Personnel Service (IRPS). She comes under the General Category.

IAS officer Anjali Birla is currently discharging her responsibilities in the Union Railway Ministry after getting 953 marks in her UPSC Mains exam in 2019 as per TimesNow. However, her rank isn’t known.

As soon as this news became public, social media was flooded with rumors suggesting Anjali Birla cleared the UPSC exam without taking any exams or interviews, attributing her success to her father’s influence.

She provided media with a copy of her admit card, and then media confirmed her roll number in the 2019 merit lists, proving she had taken both the preliminary and main examinations.

Educational Qualification

Anjali Birla completed her education at Kota’s Sophia School and studied Political Science (Honors) at Ramjas College, University of Delhi.

She began preparing for the UPSC exam around this time and cleared it on her first attempt.

The rumors about IAS Anjali Birla started gaining traction after a X user, Neha Singh Rathore (@nehafolksinger) took the matter online and wrote on X, “Anjali Birla, daughter of ‘soft-spoken and fair’ Lok Sabha speaker Om Prakash Birla, cleared the 2019 UPSC in the first attempt and was selected for IAS.

“I am sure that she must have passed this exam with complete honesty. Absolutely NEET and clean.” The viral tweet sparked a ignition online amidst the NEET exam scandal.

Moreover, the Dhruv Rathee Parody account (@dhruvrahtee) mockingly mentioned, “Anjali Birla, daughter of the Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, out of nowhere appeared for the UPSC exam and cleared it in the first attempt. Is UPSC going the NEET way?”

For the curious, Anjali Birla appeared for the UPSC exam in 2019 and cleared it on her first attempt. Before becoming an IAS officer, Anjali was indeed a model. While she had an Instagram account as well, it has since been deleted.

These rumors coincide with news stories about Om Birla’s Speaker election and the NEET exam irregularities, drawing significant attention on social media platforms.

Earlier in 2023, however, media outlet PTI conducted a fact check, confirming that the social media claims were false and provided links to multiple documents validating her result.
