In the analysis of Saturday’s IPL 2024 match between Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, legendary West Indies cricketer Ian Bishop acknowledged that he had made a mistake in praising Virat Kohli.
While Kohli’s century on Saturday was the joint-lowest in IPL history, he was criticised for his strike rate. He needed 67 deliveries to reach the mark, and he finished with an undefeated 113 off 72 deliveries, good for a strike percentage of 156.94.

However, Bishop was criticised by online users for his praise of Kohli, pointing out that it was a T20 match and hitting a half-century in 39 balls on a pitch that was good for batting was not regarded good enough.
When he praised Kohli’s knock, Bishop was in the commentary box. Fans of the Windies took to social media to criticise the icon for his comments against the Indian Premier League’s top run scorer. A fan took over X and wrote:
@irbishi said just 39 deliveries. After virat completed his 50 someone needs to tell him ipl is a 20 over tournament not 50 I know they are paying you to praise big plyrs but still call what it is 39 ball 50 on a batting track is a joke.”
Meanwhile, the legendary West Indies star accepted his mistake and is ” very aware of what batting in this format entails. I was inaccurate in my choice of words. That’s on me. I am not the devil,,,,,,not yet. But thanks for your feedback. It’s appreciated.”
I take an “L” on that one. I am very aware of what T20 batting entails, and my insertion of that word was inaccurate. My choice of words and language in keeping with the format of the game needs to be more accurate and it will be going forward. Apologies.
