Humza Yousaf is the son of Mian Muzaffar Yousaf and his mother’s name is Shaaista Bhutta. Humza hails from Mian Channu, Pakistan, and later moved from the city with his family in the 1960s. Humza Haroon completed his studies at the University of Glasgow.
Yousaf was married to Lythgoe from 2010 to 2016. But later in 2019, Yousaf got married to a psychotherapist Nadia El-Nakla and they have one kid and one stepchild.

In 2006, Humza Haroon Yousaf worked at the O2 call center, before working as a parliamentary assistant for Bashir Ahmad. Humza then worked as a parliamentary assistant for several other MSPs like Anne McLaughlin and Nicola Sturgeon. Before his election with the Scottish Parliament, Humza worked at SNP’s headquarters being a Communications Officer.
Later in 2008, whilst working as an aide, he competed at the International Visitor Leadership Program, which is an exchange run by the US State Department. Yousaf received the “Future Force of Politics” award at Young Scottish Minority Ethnic Awards which was held in 2009.
In 2011, Humza Yousaf was elected to the Scottish Parliament as an additional member for the region of Glasgow. In 2012, First Minister Alex Salmond appointed Humza Haroon Yousaf as Minister for External Affairs. Further, he took several positions and each time took a position better than his earlier posts.
It was announced on the 27th of March 2023 that Humza Haroon Yousaf had won the leadership race. Now he will be the first Muslim who will be serving as Scotland’s first minister since the post was created in early 1999. He won the election after the resignation of Nicola Sturgeon.
