Her journey to this historic moment began at Christchurch School, where in 2019, she earned an All-State Honorable Mention in football. Growing up in The Plains, Virginia.
Haley Van Voorhis was born in 2004 in Plains Town, Virginia, to mother, Heidi Van Voorhis, and father, Chandler Van Voorhis.
While Van Voorhis is the first woman to play as a safety in an NCAA game, she’s not the first female football player in history. Shelby Osborne made headlines in 2014 when she became the first female non-kicker to participate with a collegiate program, though she did not compete in a game.
Liz Heaston, on the other hand, achieved the milestone of becoming the first woman to score in a college football game in 1997 when she kicked an extra point for Willamette University.
Sarah Fuller made history in 2020 by becoming the first woman to score in a Power Five football game as a placekicker for Vanderbilt.
Haley Van Voorhis’s remarkable achievement occurred during Shenandoah’s 48-7 victory over Juniata College. In the first quarter, she recorded a quarterback hurry that forced a fourth down, demonstrating her prowess on the field.
In addition to her athletic achievements, Haley Van Voorhis is pursuing a major in Business, highlighting her dedication both on and off the field. She has also excelled in the classroom, earning spots on the Headmaster’s List and Dean’s List multiple times.
