Tyndall’s lawyer, Leonard Levine, claims that the doctor was discovered unconscious on Wednesday by a friend who broke into his residence with a key after making unsuccessful attempts to contact him. While Levine suggested that natural causes were likely, he acknowledged the possibility of an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
Despite the accusations made against him, Tyndall insisted on his innocence and indicated a great desire to go to court to defend himself. However, his sudden death has stirred various types of debates over him and accusations against him.
Due to this, he has become a trending topic of discussion, with many people trying to find out more about him. So, here’s what we know about him:
Who was George Tyndall?
George Tyndall was an American gynecologist. He has been in the news because he passed away recently while facing severe s*xual assault charges.
He was born in Plattsburgh, New York, around 1948 or 1949. He has four siblings in his household. His father was a native of the US, while his mother was French.
After completing his schooling, George Tyndall attended the State University of New York at Plattsburgh, but he left in 1967 to join the Navy. He was assigned to the Defense Language Institute in Monterey while still in the Navy to study Vietnamese. In the end, he was assigned to Manila, in the Philippines. At this time, Tyndall started learning Tagalog.
After receiving an honorable discharge from the Navy in 1971, Tyndall returned to the State University of New York to finish his degree, summa cum laude. Later, he enrolled in the Medical College of Pennsylvania, now known as the Drexel University College of Medicine.
George Tyndall was married, and his wife’s name was Daisy Patricio, a Filipino woman from Mindanao. The couple did not have any children, and they resided in the Lafayette Park area of Los Angeles.
On October 4, 2023, Tyndall was discovered dead in his bed while still in custody for a number of offenses. At the time of his death, he was 74 years old.
His career
George Tyndall obtained a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Kaiser in Los Angeles after graduating from medical school, focusing on preventative care.
He joined the student health center of the University of Southern California after finishing his residency, first at the University Park Health Center and then at the U.S.C. Engemann Student Health Center. From August 14, 1989, to June 21, 2016, George Tyndall worked at the institution, mostly as the only gynecologist on staff full-time.
But around this time, a number of accusations about improper conduct—including intrusive examinations and obscene remarks—came to light. USC, though, did not respond quickly. In 2018, a Los Angeles Times report exposed extensive allegations of sexual misconduct against Tyndall, prompting public outrage.
George Tyndall was detained in 2019 on suspicion of neglecting 16 patients and entered a not-guilty plea in 2020. Civil actions were brought concurrently, and this resulted in improvements at USC and a $215 million settlement for the plaintiffs.
Tyndall’s attorneys said there is no suspicion of foul play or suicide in his death, they believe he died of natural causes, “All we know now is that it was natural causes.”
