Concerned about unsuccessful attempts to contact Chen, an acquaintance of the couple dialed 911. The acquaintance provided details to the officers, describing Chen being inside the house, sitting motionless with hands raised.

Upon entering, the police discovered Chen and took him into custody. Authorities revealed that the suspect displayed a severely swollen and purple right hand. The press release additionally conveyed that officers found Xuanyi Yu deceased on the bedroom floor, directly behind where Chen had been standing, with significant blunt force injuries to her head.
