Iranian footballer Omid Singh has been in the news because he recently revealed that he wanted to become an Indian, know his career stats and age

Omid Singh, an Iranian winger, has informed the All India Football Federation (AIFF) via a representative that he is willing to surrender his Iranian nationality in exchange for an Indian passport in order to play for his nation internationally.

Speaking through an interpreter, Omid told TOI,

My heart is with India, with the Indian people and I (would) love to be in India and represent the country.

He added,

My father, family members, close friends all want me to play for the the (Indian) national team. They feel I have a better future with India. There is powerful mafia ruling the Iranian national team and they invite only their own players. It’s difficult for half Iranians.

Who Is Omid Singh?

Omid Singh is an Iranian footballer. He has been in the news because he is ready to give up his nationality in order to play for India.

He was born in Behbahan, Khuzestan, Iran on March 10, 1991. His father is of Indian descent and his mother is of Iranian descent. He holds the Overseas Citizenship of India card.

His height is 1.76 m or 5 ft 9 inches. He is currently 31 years old with him a Hindu by religion.

His Career

In the 2012–13 Persian Gulf Pro League, Omid Singh made his professional debut with Gahar Zagros. The next year, he played in the Azadegan League with Naft Masjed.

He joined Esteghlal Khuzestan in 2016 and won his first Persian Gulf Pro League championship with them. The next year, he joined Pars Jonoubi Jam and was a crucial part of the team’s first-ever Azadegan League championship.

On April 5, 2020, it was reported that Singh had signed a two-year agreement with East Bengal FC of the I-League; however, he has never played for the team in a league game. He now competes in the Persian Gulf Pro League for the Iranian football team Aluminium Arak F.C. His entire stats can be found here.
