They want justice for the farmers who were killed in Lakhimpur Kheri, reportedly at the hands of a BJP leader’s son, and the implementation of laws ensuring the Minimum Support Price (MSP). The farmers are determined this time and have said they won’t leave Delhi until their complaints are addressed.
Taking charge of the ‘March to Delhi’ is Sarwan Singh Pandher, identified as the General Secretary of Kisan Mazdoor Sangarsh Samiti and a resident of Amritsar, Punjab.
Pandher’s leadership stems from the split in 2007 when farmer leader Satnam Singh Pannu broke away from Kisan Sangharsh Samiti, forming the independent group Kisan Mazdoor Sangarsh Samiti. After a five-hour discussion with the administration, Pandher discussed the latest events and emphasized their attempts to avoid conflict.
Though they remain optimistic about the talks, the farmers are resentful of what they see as the government’s unjust treatment of the farming community in Haryana. Speaking to ANI, Pandher expressed worries about the use of water cannons and the dangers farmers face in their communities, highlighting the necessity of finding a just solution to the persistent problems.

Who is Sarwan Singh Pandher?
Sarwan Singh Pandher is an Indian farmer leader. He has been in the news because he is currently leading a massive protest seeking justice for farmers.
Hailing from Pandher village in Amritsar, Sarwan Singh is deeply rooted in his native community. His academic career spanned until Class 10, but even in those years, he demonstrated leadership abilities and participated actively in a number of student initiatives.

Since the beginning, he has been a staunch supporter of farmers’ issues. He has been closely associated in the past with the Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia. Interestingly, Sarwan Singh owns at least 1.5 acres of land, which strengthens his ties to agricultural concerns and the farming community.
