Farhad Moshiri, a British-Iranian businessman, is the current owner of Everton. Moshiri was born in Iran in 1955, and his family eventually moved to England back in 1979. Moshiri became the majority shareholder of the club back in 2016 after purchasing it from Bill Kenwright.

Everton chairman

Bill Kenwright is the current chairman of Everton who long been associated with the club since 1989. Kenwright first joined the club as a member of their board of directors. Later in 1999, he invested in the club as the second-largest shareholder, ultimately becoming the largest shareholder in 2004.

Kenwright retained this role up until 2016 when he sold the majority stake to current owner Farhad Moshiri. Kenwright has since then remained as the chairman of the club, and serves as Everton’s most public-facing executive.

Just recently, back in April 21, 2023 Kenwright released a statement, revealing his struggle with a chronic illness. In the statement, he asked his fans to come together and support the club through the relegation battle.

Denise Barrett-Baxendale is the current Chief Executive Officer of the club. Denise joined the club in 2010 as a community outreach executive, before becoming the Chief Operating Officer in 2011. She then became the Deputy Chief Executive in 2013, and finally joined the board in 2016 where she is now the CEO.

Grant Ingles is the current lead executive of the finance and strategy team. Ingles joined the board back in 2021 and has worked with the club ever since 2006, as a Deloitte Sports Group consultant. He joined the club permanently in 2013 as the Finance Director. Aside from Everton, Ingles has also previously worked as Head of Finance at Liverpool.

Graeme Sharp is another board executive who is a former Everton player. During his playing career, Sharp scored 111 goals across 322 appearances for the club from 1980-1991. Sharp joined the board of directors back in January of 2022 as Players’ Life President as a non-executive.

Reason behind Everton fans protesting against the board of directors

Everton have been a part of the Premier League ever since it began in 1992 and a top-flight club since 1954. As such, the club getting relegated is a big issue for both on and off the field. In recent seasons, particularly in the 2021/22 and 2022/23 Premier League seasons, Everton have been in shambles.

The club is facing troubles both on and off the field. While the fans blame Everton’s on-field problem towards the board of directors, the relationship between the two parties keep souring. In fact, things have gone real south in 2023 that the relationship between the club’s executives and the fanbase seem beyond repair at times.

Fans have even gone to the extent of reportedly assaulting Denise Barrett-Baxendale and sending death threats to Bill Kenwright. Following the incidents, the club confirmed that the directors will not be attending future matches for safety reasons.

Moreover, fans are upset at the mismanagement of the club’s finances and roster. Fans are particularly angry with how positive young players like Anthony Gordon were transferred. Recent reports have revealed that Everton’s finances are so bad that Everton could go bankrupt if they get relegated.

Moreover, the club is currently building a new 53,000 seat stadium, which owner Farhad Moshiri is struggling to make payments. The new stadium is set to open by the start of the 2024/25 season and will be named the Bramley Moore Dock stadium.
