An image of an ant that had been five times magnified was submitted by the photographer for the 2022 Nikon Small World Photomicrography Competition.
Let me tell you that the competition honors the craft of microscope photography, which enables individuals to record details that the human eye cannot perceive. The winning “Images of Distinction,” chosen from a total of 57 entries, included Kavaliauskas’ image. It received a $35 Nikon prize.
When examined closely, the picture has dramatic, sharp characteristics that may be frightening, yet it differs greatly from how most people envision ants to look.
Photographer @dantis net initially posted the ant picture, which was later posted by Instagram page @Pubity. The photos received over 655,496 likes and several comments after being posted to Instagram.

When I first started with microphotography, I, too, thought all beetles looked a little like monsters. But now, I’ve gotten used to it, and am surprised that there are so many interesting, beautiful, and unknown miracles under our feet.
