Yomif Kejelcha Atomsa who is a Christian by religion is an Ethiopian distance runner who was born on August 1, 1997, in Ethiopia. He is currently 27 years old and holds the world record in the short track mile as well as the half marathon. Kejelcha recently made headlines for his remarkable performance at the 2024 Valencia Half Marathon, where he won the men’s elite race and also set a new world record with a time of 57:30. Kejelcha broke the previous record set by Jacob Kiplimo, who is a four-time World Cross Country champion, as well as an Olympic and World Championships bronze medalist. Jacob set the record in 2021 at the EDP Meia Maratona de Lisboa.

Yomif Kejelcha started out his journey at the youth level, where he won the boys’ 3000m race at the World Youth Championships in Donetsk, Ukraine, back in 2013. He then won gold at the African Youth Games and Youth Olympic Games in the same discipline in 2014. At the junior level, he won the 2014 World Junior Championships (13:25.19). He then won the 2015 African Junior Championships (14:31.03) in the 5000m event.
After his success at the World Junior and Youth Championships, Yomif Kejelcha won the prestigious Diamond League title in the 5000m. Kejelcha also bagged a global silver medal at the World Championships in the 10,000 m event. Kejelcha is also a two-time world indoor champion and won silver in the 2023 World Road Running Championships in 5,000m.
