Hriday Chheda, Anush Agarwalla, Sudipti Hajela, and Divyakriti Singh made history on Tuesday by becoming the thrilling quartet that brought India to the Asian Games podium in equestrian after a 41-year absence. Representing the Equestrian Dressage Team, their stellar performances secured a coveted gold.

With the help of her horse, Adrenalin Firfod, Divyakriti Singh put up an excellent performance that earned her praise and a score of 68.176. Sudipti Hajela greatly contributed with a score of 66.706 while riding with her dependable horse, Chinski.

The combined effort of these outstanding riders produced an astounding 209.205 for India’s team total. The team’s accomplishments have attracted praise from all over the country, including from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other top government leaders.

Who is Hriday Chheda?

Hriday Chheda is a renowned Indian equestrian athlete. He has been in the news because he recently helped win India’s first gold medal in equestrian at the Asian Games 2023.

He was born on 24 July 1998 in Mumbai, Maharashtra. He worked out in France with Corentin Pottier as his trainer. Chheda has been playing the sport professionally since he was six years old. He has also improved his abilities while being trained by Emma McLean, Hannes Baumgart, and Johan Zagers, among others. In 2017, he also collaborated for a year with Emile Faurie, a British competitor.

Hriday Chheda relocated to Germany last year, where he trained with famous coach Leonie Bramall, who represented Canada at the Olympic Games in Atlanta and Barcelona.

Chheda is currently 25 years old.

His career

In 2015, Hriday Chheda won the National Championship Prix in St. George, marking his first significant accomplishment. He triumphed at the CDI3* Motesice (SVK) Intermediate 1 freestyle seven years later, in 2022. Chheda is the only Indian to have triumphed in the CDI competition internationally.

Chheda finished second and third, respectively, at the CDI 1* Hagen Prix in St. George and the CDI* Hagen Intermediate 1 in Germany earlier this year. Chheda has finally reached the pinnacle of his career after winning a gold medal for his nation at the Asian Games 2023.
