The Football Squad At Jefferson High School Has Reported That 17-Year-Old Rising Star Elijah Dewitt Was Slain
A shooting in Gwinnett County on Wednesday claimed the life of a kid from Jefferson High School, and the neighbourhood is now in grief for the death of the outstanding athlete who was a senior wide receiver.

Travis Noland, the head football coach at Jefferson High, referred to the shooting as “senseless” and expressed confidence that justice will be served.
The Gwinnett Police Department said: “We do not know what led up to the shooting but we are gathering as much information from any witnesses that were in the area and surveillance camera if the mall has any.”
Elijah Dewitt Was Killed By A Shot At 17
Elijah DeWitt lost his life in a gunshot overnight on Wednesday, October 5, according to Fox 5 Atlanta. The 17-year-old kid was reportedly discovered dead in Lawrenceville’s Sugarloaf Mills Mall parking lot close to the Dave & Buster’s eatery.
It was well known that DeWitt was a strong talent and competitor around the state, having played for both Prince and Jefferson and taking part in Cam Newton’s 7-on-7 teams throughout the winter months. DeWitt had nearly 600 receiving yards and five touchdowns this season for the Dragons, as well as 12 tackles and an interception. In May, Arkansas State first offered him to be part of the college.
On its official Twitter account, the Jefferson High School football team posted a statement and tribute to Elijah.

Elijah’s Passing Has Shocked The Neighbourhood Sports Scene, And Many People Who Knew Him Have Expressed Tribute On Social Media.
“I didn’t want to believe the news when I woke up this morning, according to one tribute. Elijah Dewitt’s family, the Jefferson neighbourhood, and everyone who knew him is in deep sorrow. Simply devastating.” Another person commented: “Sending prayers and good thoughts to the Dewitt family, Elijah’s friends, and the Jefferson community.”
University of Carolina coach Justin Stepp expressed his shock upon learning of Elijah Dewitt’s death this morning, “Too soon for such a great kid. Heartbreaking! Praying for his family and the Jefferson community!”
