San Diego’s Dr. Chavez recently pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute ketamine which led to the death of Matthew Perry. During his plea agreement, Chavez admitted to diverting the drug from his former clinic, and making false representations to a wholesale ketamine dealer. He also admitted to submitting a fraudulent prescription under the name of a former patient. If found convicted, Chavez could face up to 10 years in prison.
Chavez reportedly ran a ketamine clinic, and got additional ketamine from a wholesale distributor of controlled substances. He had obtained the items citing that the drug would not be sold to a third party or that he would distribute it or use it for any other purpose. Mark Chavez then sold the ketamine by writing a fraudulent prescription to Plasencia, who in turn sold it to Perry’s personal assistant, Kenneth Iwamasa.
