DP Manu bio

Devarakeshavi Prakasha Manu is an Indian track and field athlete who was born on 24 January, 2000. Manu competes in the Javelin throw event and was a national champion in the event. DP Manu hails from Hassan, Karnataka and has trained under Kashinath Naik in Pune since 2020.

DP Manu is currently 23 years old and stands at a height of 1.85m.

DP Manu career highlights

Manu has had quite the rise in his career after recording his personal best with a throw of 84.35m in June 2022. DP Manu registered this impressive throw when he won the Inter-State championships in Chennai. Following this record, he is also now the fourth-best Indian javelin thrower of all time.

That same month, Manu won the Indian national championships in Bengaluru, with an impressive 81.23m throw. In fact, DP Manu recorded five throws over the 80m mark out of nine competitions in 2022. DP Manu made his international event debut representing India at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games where he finished fifth. He best throw was at 82.28m.

Earlier this year, at the Asian Athletics Championships in Bangkok, DP Manu won the silver after throwing 81 metres. Following which he secured his ticket to the World Athletic Championship 2023 in Budapest, Hungary. During the qualifiers round, finished third in his group and sixth overall with a best throw of 81.31m. DP Manu joined Neeraj Chopra and Kishore Jena in the finals and finished at fifth place with a throw of 84.14m.

A team coach for the Indian contingent stated:

“For the first time three Indians have qualified for the final round of an event in World Championships. It has never happened earlier. It’s a historic day for Indian javelin.”
