Marion County Coroner’s office identifies the dead body as Derek Sink
The Marion County Coroner’s office has reportedly identified a man found dead inside a Planet Fitness on Monday in Indianapolis. The Coroner’s office identified the dead body as that of Derek Sink, a 39-year-old man who was previously reported missing. As of now, they are still to determine the exact cause or manner of his death.
Police discover a dead body inside Planet Fitness tanning bed
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department recently discovered a dead body inside of a tanning bed in the Planet Fitness at 8707 Hardegen St. Police officials received a report around 8:26 a.m. on Monday about the body. Upon their arrival, they managed to locate the body of a person named Derek Sink, who was initially reported missing on Sunday by his family. According to Sink’s family, he had gone into the tanning bed on Friday.
The Planet Fitness gym reportedly closed at around 9 p.m. Friday and was open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. On Monday morning, the gym opened around 5 a.m. and a woman who visited the gym reported a foul smell emanating through the building. Eventually they discovered Sink’s lifeless body around 9 a.m. in the tanning bed. According to Sink’s family, he was dealing with drug problems and authorities found a needle in the room at the Planet Fitness.
Planet Fitness speaks out
Following the shocking incident, a representative for Planet Fitness, McCall Gosselin, who is the chief corporate affairs officer gave a statement regarding Sink’s death, saying:
We were deeply saddened by the passing of one of our members, and the franchise owner is working with the local authorities in their investigation.”
He added that the company has:
robust operational brand protocols in place and is working closely with our local franchisee to ensure they are upholding those brand protocols.”
Authorities are still carrying out the investigation over Derek Sink’s death as a death investigation and not a homicide.
