After killing 18-year-old Ava Renee Moore in a jet ski hit-and-run on Grapevine Lake, Daikerlyn Alejandra Gonzalez was taken into custody in South Dallas.

Police say 21-year-old Daikerlyn Alejandra Gonzalez from Venezuela who was living illegally in the US struck Moore with her jet ski, then fled the scene in a vehicle with another Venezuelan illegal alien, 21-year-old Maikel Coello Perozo, and they hit another car while fleeing.

Ava Moore was hit while kayaking and subsequently passed away from her wounds. Daikerlyn Alejandra Gonzalez allegedly took a friend along when they left the site. The incident’s inquiry is still under progress.

“On Sunday, Daikerlyn Alejandra Gonzalez Gonzalez – an illegal alien from Venezuela – struck and killed an 18-year-old woman, Ava Moore, on Lake Grapevine with a jet ski. The suspect then fled the scene with a male illegal alien, subsequently committing a hit-and-run after striking another vehicle. Paxton’s Fugitive Apprehension Unit tracked down and arrested the illegal aliens connected to the crimes, working with the Texas Parks and Wildlife, the Grapevine Police Department, the Dallas Police Department, the Texas Department of Public Safety, and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security,” Attorney General Ken Paxton said.

In relation to the tragic jet ski hit-and-run on Grapevine Lake in which 18-year-old Ava Moore lost her life, authorities have detained a woman named Daikerlyn Alejandra Gonzalez. The arrest of Gonzalez was confirmed by the Texas Game Wardens on Wednesday in cooperation with the Grapevine Police Department and other law enforcement organizations.

On Sunday, around 5:20 PM, emergency team was sent to Grapevine Lake after they received information about the kayaking mishap. Ava Moore who had just been appointed by the US Air Force Academy Prep School was hit by a jet ski on the lake. After suffering serious head injuries, she was sent to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Grapevine where she was declared dead.

As per the investigation reports, two women were aboard the jet ski when it crashed. The driver was later on identified as Gonzalez who allegedly left with a male companion but one of them stayed at the site and assisted first responders.

On Memorial Day, a photo of the suspect Gonzalez was released by the police and they asked the public for help. Her arrest came after days of investigation and cooperation between state and local law enforcement that included the Texas Attorney General’s Office, the Texas Department of Public Safety, the Dallas Police Department, along with the Homeland Security Investigations. The investigation into both the water incident and the vehicle hit-and-run is ongoing.

Who was Ava Renee Moore?

When the event took place on Sunday, Kayaker Ava Renee Moore was at Grapevine Lake which is approximately 32 miles northwest of Dallas to celebrate the Memorial Day weekend. She suffered a serious damage to her head. Moore was set to begin basic training in a few weeks with the goal of joining the U.S. military.

Age 18 Ava Moore was a 2024 graduate of Timber Creek High School in Keller and trained for the Air Force Academy with her also being a basketball player.

Ava graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy Preparatory School on May 19, 2025, and had accepted an appointment to join the Academy as a member of the Class of 2029 and was also set to join the Women’s Basketball team.
