Police claimed on Wednesday that Mrinank Singh, a former cricket player, had been taken into custody for allegedly defrauding a five-star hotel in Delhi out of almost Rs 5 lakh.
According to a senior police officer, the allegation said that Singh stayed at the hotel from July 22 to 29, 2022, while posing as a cricket player. The bill for Rs 5,53,362 (Rs 5.53 lakh) was not paid by him when he left the hotel.

The complaint was received on August 22, 2022, at Chanakyapuri police station by the directors of security of the hotel. Singh attempted to board a flight to Hong Kong on Monday when he was detained at IGI Airport, after telling the hotel that the sponsor would settle the bill, but it didn’t happen.
He is charged with assuming the identity of a senior Indian Police Service (IPS) official to deceive the owner/managers of several exclusive hotels around India trick five-star hotels and resorts, the accused devised a new strategy and pretended to be a senior IPS member.
Additionally, the former cricketer pretended to be an IPL player and took use of his “stardom” to con women and lead an opulent lifestyle, according to the police. They added that he claimed to play for an Indian Premier League (IPL) team.
Singh embezzled sporting equipment dealerships and pretended to be the spokesperson for a global sports brand. It was also alleged that he had close relations with several of the Indian cricket players.
Earlier, the former Haryana cricketer is also said to have defrauded top Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant of Rs. 1.63 crores. Singh reportedly offered to pay a fair price for Pant’s pricey watches, according to a Mid-day report. Additionally, it has been stated that the former cricket player for Haryana stole expensive stuff from the DC skipper but never gave it back.
During his detention at the IGI Airport, Mrinank Singh made another attempt to dupe the immigration officials and called senior police officials by posing as Alok Kumar, ADGP Karnataka, and sought their assistance in helping his son Mrinank Singh who had been “illegally detained” at the IGI Airport.
During interrogation, Mrinank Singh tried to mislead police and claimed that his “father”, Ashok Kumar Singh, was also an international cricket player and played for the Indian cricket team in the 1980s to late 90s. Mrinank also told the police his “father” was currently working as a manager of Air India and was posted at the IGI Airport.
Mrinank Singh revealed that he duped multiple luxury resorts and hotels of lakhs of rupees posing as the Karnataka ADGP and he would claim he was part of the Mumbai Indians from 2014 to 2018 and would use that to leave hotels without paying the bills.
As per the police, Singh’s targets included hotels, bars, restaurants, young girls, cab drivers, small eating outlets, among others.

Mrinank Singh is a former cricket player who hails from Faridabad, Haryana. The 25-year-old played cricket for the state’s under-19 squad.
Mrinank Singh completed his Bachelor’s degree from Hindu College in Delhi and pursued an MBA from OPJS University in Rajasthan and has also claimed that he played in the Ranji Trophy in 2021 for Haryana.
