Her career

Shabnim Ismail’s cricket career started in 2004 when the Primrose Cricket Club recruited her after a football match. She was a batswoman at first, but then switched to bowling and became known as “The Demon” due to her proficiency with bouncers.

Ismail advanced through the ranks quickly, playing her first game for Western Province before relocating to Gauteng. Internationally, she played in Australia’s Women’s Big Bash League for Melbourne Renegades and Sydney Thunder, contributing significantly to the latter’s WBBL|06 title.

After making her debut for South Africa in 2007, Ismail went on to have an incredible international career, achieving notable feats in ICC competitions and being the first female South African wicket-taker in T20 Internationals.
