The Panthers have signed Coastal Carolina power forward Colin Granger, a 6’9”, 225-pound basketball player to a contract to play tight end.

General manager Dan Morgan and coach Dave Canales of Carolina had previously participated in an experiment using a former basketball player. When the Seahawks signed George Fant (6-5, 315 pounds), a former Western Kentucky football and basketball player, as a hybrid tackle/tight end, both were in Seattle.

In the upcoming months, Colin Granger, a 6-9, 225-pound centre or rather, tight end hopes to make the Panthers’ 53-man roster. While his DOB isn’t known, he is aged between 20-30 years.

Granger played basketball for Ohio University, Western Carolina, and Coastal Carolina during his five years in college. He averaged 7.2 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 0.6 assists in 31 games (11 starts) during his final season with the Chanticleers.

Former Division I basketball player Colin Granger will begin his journey into football after five years of playing college basketball at Ohio, Western Carolina and Coastal Carolina in this season but he hasn’t played football since the eighth grade.

Granger’s “first foray” into football is represented by his signing. With a 6-9 frame that resembles that of Dan Skipper, Jonathan Ogden, Alejandro Villanueva, and other NFL flowering oaks, he will instantly rank among the tallest players to have ever played the game.

Granger, who stands 6 feet 9 inches tall, is a bean among saplings in the NFL. That is comparable to Skipper, who was the tallest player in the league at the end of the 2024 season.

Antonio Gates and Tony Gonzalez are just two examples of basketball-mad tight ends who switched to football full-time before starting lucrative careers. Granger was bigger than even those players, though.

Granger, who weighs 225 pounds, is still athletic enough to pose a challenge to opposing defenders in the open field. Given that Caleb Jones, Jordan Mailata, and Skipper are all offensive linemen, that would set him apart from a large number of NFL skyscrapers.
