Veddriq Leonardo is an Indonesian competition climber who was born on March 11, 1997 in Pontianak, West Kalimantan, Indonesia. He specializes in competition speed climbing and is the reigning Olympic Champion in the sport. Veddriq first tried out competition climbing during his first year of high school and has since never looked back.

Veddriq Leonardo is currently 27 years old and stands at a height of 1.62 m.
Career and achievements
Veddriq took part in his first national championship back in the Tanjung Balai Karimun in 2014, finishing in the top eight. Two years later, in 2016, Veddriq won his first medal (bronze) in the junior national championship in Bangka Belitung. He eventually competed in his first international event at the 2018 Moscow World Cup where he won bronze.
That same year, he won the speed relay gold at the 2018 Asian Games in JakartaโPalembang. He then competed at the 2019 Asian Championships in Bogor, where he won a gold in speed, and a silver in speed relay. Veddriq Leonardo then proceeded to win three consecutive golds at the IFSC Climbing World Cup in 2021, 2022, and 2023.
Leonardo had a successful 2022 winning a gold at the 2022 Birmingham World Games in Speed. He then won a silver in speed relay and a bronze in speed at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games. Veddriq also won a silver at the 2022 Seoul Asian Championships in speed. He is now the reigning Olympic champion in speed climbing and the first Indonesian non-badminton Olympic gold medallist.
