Who is Citizen TV journalist Kimani Mbugua as his video goes viral, biography, age, wife, education and story

Former Citizen TV journalist age 26 Kimani Mbugua recently shared a video on social media that sparked concerns about his mental health

The former journalist Kimani Mbugua threatened those he claimed owed him money in the two-minute video posted online. He threatened to use gun violence if necessary.

“If you owe me money, better send it now because I have guns to protect my money.” Mbugua captioned the video.

A month ago, Kimani Mbugua claimed to have been robbed while live on TikTok and asked for assistance in tracing his phone. Kimani claimed on social media that he was out for an early morning stroll at the time of the event.

26-year-old Kimani Mbugua’s exact date of birth is not known. Details about Kimani’s family members also remain unknown. He is currently single and unmarried.

While he was engaged once to his girlfriend Michelle, she left him after his breakdowns. He explained how substance abuse affected him mentally and how he suffered from schizophrenia and had to seek help from Mathare Mental hospital and go through rehabilitation.

Mbugua graduated from the University of London with a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations and a Master of Science in Nationalism and Ethnic Conflict.

Kimani Mbugua was originally a TV personality who was well-known for his young news presentation. In 2016, he progressed to work as a producer and reporter for entertainment news at Nation Media Group, co-hosting programmes like The Trend with Larry Madowo.

Subsequently, he relocated to Citizen TV, where he covered news in different parts of the country. But his career in the media came to an end in 2020. In October 2023, after leaving Citizen TV, he started a new show called “UnBroken.”

Mbugua, who received a bipolar disorder diagnosis in 2020, regularly uploads films of in uncomfortable situations and occasionally even makes requests for financial assistance. Kenyans including Oga Obinna who is a well-known comedian have helped him. Mbugua was allegedly robbed during a previous incident while live-broadcasting on TikTok.

Apart from his career as a media person, Kimani Mbugua is also working as a visual artist from past ten years. Mbugua has been to a number of places during his active career years including Afghanistan and the United Kingdom. In 2009, he decided to settle in Nairobi but in 2022, he relocated to Nanyuki and is residing in the same city at present as well.
