Recently, news surfaced online that Miss Universe Nigeria has extended an invitation to the former finalist of South Africa, Chidimma Adetshina, who became the target of xenophobic attacks, and online bullying, with even Cabinet ministers questioning her citizenship.
Shortly after these attacks, the 23-year-old decided to withdraw from the pageant competition after the department of Home Affairs announced that it had found preliminary evidence suggesting that the woman listed as her mother in official records might have committed fraud and identity theft.

About Chidimma Adetshina
Chidimma Adetshina, whose full name is Chidimma Vanessa Onwe Adetshina, is a South African native who competed in Miss South Africa 2024 and reached the top 11 finalists, however, as aforesaid, she withdraw from the competition after facing online trolling due to her mixed heritage.
The 23-year-old law student Chidimma Adetshina whose height stands at 1.95m pulled out of the competition following allegations that her mother may have stolen the identity of a South African woman.
For the curious, Adetshina, was born and raised in Soweto to a Nigerian father of Igbo descent and a South African mother with Zulu ancestry. As per reports, her mother was Mozambican, who later became a naturalized South African citizen.
Her nationality has been questioned by critics, particularly after she advanced her way to top 16 and then top 11 of the Miss South Africa competition. Many argued that her Nigerian heritage disqualifies her from representing South Africa.
However, many came in to her support who view her as a symbol of South Africaโs diversity. Various prominent figures and organizations have defended her, while advocating for an end to xenophobia and greater acceptance of all South Africans.
Meanwhile, in another update, the Department of Home Affairs and the Miss South Africa organization have confirmed that Chidimma meets all the necessary requirements to compete, including holding a valid South African passport.
Marital Status & Children
Chidimma Adetshina, earlier in an interview in February, 2024, revealed that she was previously married and got divorced in February. She has one child from her marriage. However, there isnโt any information available about her husband.
In her interview, Adetshina, explained that the incompatibility with her ex-husband stemmed from differing views on traditional gender roles in marriage.
Adetshina stated that she did not want to be confined to domestic duties and believes that society has evolved beyond such expectations.
