Skaggs, 27, was found dead in a hotel room in Dallas’ Southlake suburb.
The day before the Angels were set to take on the Texas Rangers in the first game of a four-game road trip, Skaggs, 27, was found dead in a hotel room in Dallas’ Southlake suburb. According to a coroner’s report, Skaggs apparently choked to death on his own vomit and had dangerous amounts of alcohol, fentanyl, and oxycodone in his system.
Former Angels employee Eric Kay was recently convicted guilty.
Eric Kay, a former employee of the Angels’ public relations department, was recently convicted guilty of conspiring to market the drugs that killed Skaggs and other felonies and given a 22-year jail sentence in Texas. Five players from the major leagues testified during the trial that they received oxycodone tablets from Kay on various occasions between 2017 and 2019, the years he was charged with buying drugs and passing them along to athletes at Angel Stadium. One of many pieces of evidence presented throughout the trial was theirs.
Skaggs’ widow Carli Skaggs sued the Angels for wrongful death and negligent employment and supervision, alleging that the organisation knew Kay was giving players narcotics but still let him do so. The LA Angels had denied the accusation, but the judge denied their plea to have the case dropped because enough factual claims had been made for the matter to proceed to trial.
In Texas and California, respectively, two lawsuits were filed on behalf of Skaggs’ widow and parents. The Texas complaint is expected to be dismissed after the Angels agreed to include the parents in the California litigation this year.
Who is Carli Skaggs?
The late athlete Tyler Skaggs’ widow is Carli Skaggs. She is a travel advisor who rose to fame after giving testimony at Kay’s trial. Sadly, the athlete passed away in 2019, therefore the couple was unable to commemorate their first wedding anniversary after being hitched in 2018.
Carli provided testimony at Kay’s trial in February 2022 detailing her husband’s severe drug use. She acknowledged that the furious texts she wrote about her husband’s drinking problem on the day he passed away were not a true reflection of her understanding of the problems he was dealing with.
Apart from her appearances throughout the trial, Carli has kept a very low profile. She was clearly still dealing with the devastating emotional toll that her husband’s passing had on her throughout the trial.
The 30 year old has a net worth of $500,000.
