Authorities in Kenya have detained a guy named Brian Mwenda, who misrepresented himself as an advocate working in the country’s high court.
Mwenda surprisingly succeeded in presenting his arguments to High Court judges, magistrates, and Court of Appeal judges, winning 26 cases. However, his winning streak was short-lived because he was detained.

According to preliminary findings, this impostor, Brian Mwenda, used the Business Email Compromise (BEC), a popular worldwide fraud technique. Mwenda took advantage of the status of an actual advocate’s passivity using this misleading tactic. To request payment for his Practicing Certificate (PC), he made contact with the secretariat under the pretext of applying.
However, his first application was turned down because of invalid email credentials. Mwenda, however, was able to get into the account without authorization and quickly took over the portal. He changed his profile photo and job information to conceal his genuine identity.
Additionally, Brian Mwenda paid the required fee and applied for a practicing certificate. Mwenda’s application was sadly denied because he was unable to present some documentation, such as a certificate of firm establishment. Without the necessary paperwork, the program remained in limbo, making the additional layer of protection crucial.
However, the Nairobi Branch of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) received complaints from the general public, which revealed Mwenda’s deception. The Nairobi Branch acted right away and categorically said that Mwenda was not an authorized counsel. They said he lacked the requisite license to practice law in Kenya.

28 year old Brian Mwenda is a Kenyan imposter and a criminal. He has been in the news because he was exposed as an imposter after claiming to be an advocate.
His full name is Brian Mwenda Njagi. He was detained by law enforcement after winning 26 cases before Supreme Court of Appeal judges, magistrates, and high court judges. The Law Society claims that despite not having a valid license to practice law in the nation, he misrepresented himself as an Advocate of the High Court.
Ntwiga acknowledged to LSK that he had not sought a practicing certificate since being admitted to the bar in August 2022 because he had been employed by the Office of the Attorney General and did not need one.
Rarieda Member of Parliament Otiende Amollo has said Brian Mwenda who is accused of masquerading as an Advocate can never be admitted as an advocate of the High Court of Kenya because of fabricating his identity.
Reports indicated that he had battled 26 cases before High Court Judges, Magistrates, and Court of Appeal Judges before his arrest, and he won all of them despite having no formal education as a lawyer or law degree.
