Additionally, the team declared that after the conclusion of the season, it will launch a “comprehensive head coach search.”

A look at Brian Keefe’s career

At the Capital One Arena on Thursday night, Keefe will face his debut game as head coach against the Utah Jazz (22-23). It will help Keefe’s chances of being a head coach for another team if he can demonstrate some progress for the rest of the season.

Keefe had an excellent time in college as well. His career began at UC Irvine, where he was selected to the All-Big West Second Team in 1995–1996 and made team captain as a sophomore.

For his final two seasons, he subsequently transferred to UNLV, where he helped the Running Rebels win the Western Athletic Conference Tournament and go into the NCAA. He again took the leadership role during his senior year (1998–99), leading the squad to an NIT participation.

After working as a graduate assistant at the University of South Florida, Brian Keefe started his journey into coaching.

As an assistant coach, Keefe has worked with the Brooklyn Nets (2021–2023), Oklahoma City Thunder (2019–20, 2007–2014), Los Angeles Lakers (2016–2019), and New York Knicks (2014–16) throughout several years. In 2005, he began working as a video coordinator for the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA.

When Keefe moved to Seattle (before the Oklahoma City move) in 2007, he was in charge of helping the young players grow. During his tenures, Keefe oversaw defence for the Thunder and Nets. Both of the teams were real postseason contenders when he served.
