Who Is Brent Allen Thompson suspect killed while fleeing cops in Larimer County in viral video on Twitter
A runaway suspect in Colorado was recently driven over by an oncoming SUV seconds after being tased by police on a busy freeway. The spine-chilling moment was recorded in body camera footage which was recently released by deputies in Colorado.ย
Everything You Need To Know About Brent Thompson’s Interaction With The Cops
On February 18, around 9 p.m., Deputy Lorenzo Lujan pulled over 28-year-old Brent Allen Thompson near a hotel along Interstate 25 in Larimer County. The deputy noticed that the tags on his Ford Fusion had expired.
However, Thompson jumped onto the northbound I-25, where Lujan pursued him until his vehicle came to a stop close to the Mountain Vista Drive exit. The deputies discovered that Thompson, of Loveland, had given them a false name when he initially identified himself as “Jacob Jones” after running the name through their system.ย
Police found drugs in Thompson’s car, but he insisted he had not lied until he was told he was under arrest. In an attempt to flee, he sprinted over the I-25 and overcame the officers.
Is Lorenzo Lujan Under Investigation For The Incident?
Thompson can be seen fleeing through the grass between the two lanes after climbing over the barricade by the side of the road in a recently released bodycam video.ย
In the video, Lujan is seen shouting and stopping Thompson. When Thompson scaled the second barricade and returned to the road, the officer fired his gun.ย
Thompson was ruthlessly ploughed over by the approaching SUV seconds after Lujan observed him lying on the road, but it was too late. The exact moment of impact is not captured on camera.ย
The moaning driver was then detained and carried to the motorway shoulder, where Lujan and other officers alternated performing CPR until paramedics arrived.
On the highway, where Brent was struck and killed by oncoming traffic, the officer followed after him and tased him.
Was The Officer’s Behaviour Careless?
Although he is unable to detect a pulse, one of the EMTs claims to have seen Thompson’s eyes flutter. He was transported urgently to the Medical Centre of the Rockies, where he was subsequently declared dead. The Larimer County District Attorney’s Office announced last week that no charges would be brought against Lujan following an inquiry.ย
A district attorney, Gordon McLaughlin, has stated that following an investigation and a review of Colorado law, it has been determined that it is unlikely to be successful in proving unanimously and beyond a reasonable doubt that Deputy Lorenzo Lujan is criminally culpable for attempting to arrest Brent Thompson.
The Case Against The Cop Lujan
Now that Thompson’s family has been destroyed, they intend to sue the sheriffs of Larimer County in civil court. To demonstrate what happened on I-25, their attorneys, Qusair Mohamedbhai and Siddhartha Rathod, published the footage on Wednesday. “Nobody with any sense would tase someone on the highway.ย
The decision not to file charges against Lujan illustrates “once again that the police cannot and will not police themselves,” Rathod told the Denver Post, adding that the public has a right to see this. “At the time that Brent ran from law enforcement, he was only suspected of committing the crimes of driving with an expired registration and giving law enforcement a false name,” he said, describing the occurrence as “negligent homicide.”
