The Indian advanced to the semi-finals after defeating Keddy Evans Agnes of Seychelles with a score of 5-0, guaranteeing India a medal. Ahlawat relaxed into the fight after scoring some early powerful lefts, but Agnes put up a resolute front and scored a couple of his own.

In the second round, Agnes came out strong and kept busy by forcing the Indian to the ropes. However, Ahlawat was able to escape the clinch in the second round by counterpunching. The third round of the contest was lopsided since Ahlawat controlled Agnes the entire time and easily won by a unanimous vote.

Who Is Sagar Ahlawat?

Sagar Ahlawat is a young Indian boxer who is recently in news for assuring another medal for India in the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham.

He is from Dhandlan village of Rohtak in Haryana. He is currently living in Chandigarh India. His father is a farmer and his whole family is engaged in farming with no history in athletics.

He did his schooling at BRPS Dujana. He is currently attending GGDSD College, Chandigarh for further studies.

Sagar, who had little interest in studying, was looking for a different way to make a living until he discovered boxing. Surprisingly, a newspaper article was the catalyst for Sagar’s desire of becoming a boxer.

He became interested in boxing after reading a full-page article about the illustrious fight between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao seven years ago.

In 2017, Sagar started working out at the Jawahar Bagh Stadium in Jhajjar. He would ride his bike 20 kilometres to the stadium, but his training was inconsistent since he occasionally had to assist his father on the farm.

He is currently 20 years old and his height stands at 5 feet 2 inches.

His Career

Sagar Ahlawat persevered through all of the difficulties, and it paid off as his first significant victory came in 2019 when he took home gold at the All India University Games. He then went on to win two more gold medals in the Khelo India University Games.

Sagar surprised everyone in the most recent Senior Nationals despite coming in second place after falling short of Narender in the championship match. His achievement in the Senior National gave him the opportunity to attend the national camp.

Sagar defeated his inspiration Satish Kumar in the Commonwealth Games trials before defeating Narender, the national champion, to secure a spot in Birmingham. Now he has already assured a medal for India and is on the verge to win a gold medal in his first international appearance.
