Tributes pour to the Cumbernauld boxer who won the Scottish featherweight title in September of last year. 

The 28-year-old Scottish featherweight boxing champion Andrew Tham died after a horrifying motorbike accident.

Tham was riding his Kawasaki bike when he collided with a Hyundai in the Scottish village of Cumbernauld, the BBC announced. 

Following the collision, he was taken to Glasgow’s Queen Elizabeth University Hospital however, despite the best efforts, his life couldn’t be saved.

Boxer George Steward stated on his Facebook that he was “absolutely devastated,” by the unfortunate incident. 

Who was Andrew Tham?

Andrew Tham was a professional boxer who was 28 years old when he passed away following motorbike collision.

Tham trained at the Kilsyth Golden Gloves gym in the town of North Lanarkshire. He had his first professional bout in March 2019 and was managed by St Andrew’s Sporting Club. 

The club on X (previously Twitter) wrote, “Andy was a champion in the ring, and a character out of the ring.

Further was written, “It has been an honour to have him in our stable for the entirety of his professional boxing career and he will be greatly missed by us all.”

The club ended by saying that their thoughts are prayers are with his family and friends. 

Throughout his professional boxing career, Tham showed skill and perseverance. He finished his adventure with a 6-2 record in September of last year, when he fought Jack Turner to earn the Scottish featherweight title. 

Tham earned his featherweight title on the undercard of a “Battle of the Legends” fight between Scottish boxing greats Ricky Burns and Willie Limond at the Braehead Arena.

His premature death is all the more tragic in light of his remarkable achievements and bright future and his career achievements was limited. 

Meanwhile, Tham’s passing is the second setback to the Scottish sport in recent weeks. The 45-year-old former light-welterweight champion of the Commonwealth and the United Kingdom, Limond, passed away in April.
