After an alleged obscene video of him surfaced on social media, BJP MP Upendra Singh Rawat said he would not run in any elections unless he was proven innocent. Even though the party has nominated him for the next Lok Sabha elections in Barabanki, Rawat said he has asked for a comprehensive probe into the issue.

In his Hindi-language post on X, he clarified the widely shared video is the product of deepfake AI technology, which prompted him to lodge a police report and request an investigation from the party president. The newly appointed MP underlined,
An edited video of mine is being made viral which is generated by DeepFake AI technology, for which I have lodged an FIR. In this regard, I have requested the Honorable National President to get it investigated. I will not contest any election in public life until I am proven innocent.
The complaint, which was submitted by Rawat’s secretary Dinesh Chandra Rawat, said that an unidentified person disseminated an offensive and manipulative film in an attempt to damage the MP’s reputation after he was nominated as a BJP candidate.
According to Kotwali police station in-charge Aditya Tripathi, the FIR has been registered, and police sources informed PTI that the circulated video portrays a man in an objectionable position with a woman, purportedly identified as Upendra Singh Rawat.

Upendra Singh Rawat was born in 1969 in Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh India and his parents are Raj Kunwar and Sarojani Devi.
His educational background includes an M.A. in Sociology and an LL.B. He pursued his studies at J.N.P.J. College in Barabanki and earned his degree from Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University, Faizabad.

His career
Upendra Singh Rawat is an esteemed Indian politician affiliated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). From 2017 to 2019, Rawat was a member of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly. As the candidate for the Uttar Pradesh seat of Barabanki in the 2019 General Election, he triumphed with 535,594 votes, easily defeating his rival from the Samajwadi Party, Ram Sagar Rawat.
He took on important responsibilities after being elected to the 17th Lok Sabha, such as serving on the Standing Committee on Personnel, Public Grievances, Law and Justice, and the Committee on Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
He was recently announced as the candidate of BJP for the upcoming 2024 general elections. However, he withdraws his name from the elections due to his alleged viral obscene video.
