Who is Ben Wells?
Ben Wells is a former cricket player who was born on July 30, 2000 Bath, Somerset, England. The 23-year-old was a right handed batsman and wicketkeeper.
He got a Bachelor of Science in Physics from the University of Exeter, where he captained the First XI.
A look at Ben Wells’ career
Ben Wells career’s end was something one couldn’t have thought of. The player had to retirement unfortunately following a rare heart condition.
Wells made his Gloucestershire debut in September 2021, and in his sole first-class innings, he scored forty runs off of ninety-four balls at Cardiff against Glamorgan. He scored his only career century against Durham in the Metro Bank One-Day Cup the previous season, a match-winning 108 not out.
He had been creating a reputation for himself as a white-ball cricketer before receiving his diagnosis. He was a regular player for Bath CC, playing in over 100 1st XI matches. In the Vitality Blast of the previous year, he helped Gloucestershire defeat Hampshire by eight wickets with an outstanding 43 not out from 22 balls.
Ben Wells’ cause of retirement from cricket
Ben Wells disclosed that he has been diagnosed with Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy (ARVC) in an open letter posted on the website of Gloucestershire.
The problem, discovered during a routine cardiac test as part of Gloucestershire’s pre-season medical exams, has unfortunately left him with no option but to retire from competitive play and requires him to refrain from heavy lifting.
Additionally, with a cardiac defibrillator implanted, he will be able to live a normal life but not on the pitch, sadly.
