Johannes Pietsch wins Eurovision 2025
Austrian countertenor Johannes Pietsch recently claimed victory at Eurovision 2025, in Basel, Switzerland. Pietsch won the competition with a powerful, genre-blending performance of his original, “Wasted Love.” His performance earned massive points from both the professional juries and the public vote. He narrowly managed to beat Israeli musician Yuval Raphael, who came in second place with his song “New Day Will Rise.” Following the win, JJ told reporters,
This is beyond my wildest dreams. Love is the strongest force on planet Earth, and love persevered.”
Austria is now set to host Eurovision 2026, and Chancellor Christian Stocker was among the first to congratulate JJ, stating:

Johannes Pietsch is a classically trained countertenor who hails from Vienna, Austria, and performs under the stage name JJ. Pietsch recently made a name for himself with his unique voice and for winning Eurovision 2025. He has a unique skill of blending operatic techniques alongside pop and electronic music. Pietsch considers Conchita Wurst as a mentor and he has long aimed at bringing a new sound and message to Eurovision.
Johannes Pietsch, also known as JJ, is an Austrian singer-songwriter and opera performer and is of mixed ethnicity, with an Austrian father and a Filipina mother. He was born in Vienna and grew up in Dubai before returning to Austria and his upbringing in a musically diverse environment, including both opera and pop music, has shaped his unique musical style.
Pietsch was born in Vienna to an Austrian IT specialist and a Filipina cook, and he grew up in Dubai, UAE and in 2016, the family returned to Austria.
