Austin Metcalf, Frisco Memorial High School football player was stabbed to death by Karmelo Anthony during a high school track meet in Texas
Students attending a track and field competition between Frisco high schools on Wednesday witnessed a horrible and deadly turn of events.
According to Frisco police, a fight between two male students, both 17 years old, resulted in a stabbing that killed one and charging the other with murder.
On social media, parents and students in the Frisco Independent School District shared their sorrow and indignation over the brutal assault.

The victim, identified as Metcalf, was an 11th grader at Memorial High School and investigation revealed that an altercation between two students resulted in one stabbing the other at a track event at Kuykendall Stadium, in the northern Frisco suburb of Dallas, Texas.
The suspect, 17-year-old Karmelo Anthony of Frisco, was arrested and charged with Murder, a 1st Degree Felony and no bond has been set at this time.
Austin Metcalf wrote, “Faith that God got me and my work will pay off,” on X only two days prior to the stabbing.
The life and promising future of the 17-year-old Memorial High School student-athlete Austin Metcalf came to an end on Wednesday morning inside Frisco ISD’s stadium during a planned track and field competition.
Frisco police said after an altercation, Karmelo Anthony stabbed Metcalf who was taken to a hospital where he died.
After being taken into custody, Anthony was accused of first-degree murder. Shortly after everyone in the stadium was taken to school buses, authorities covered the stabbing scene with a blue tarp.
According to Anthony’s Kudl profile, he is a student at Centennial High School where he played for the Titans Varsity football team and is listed as five feet 11 inches, 160 pounds and as part of the class of 2025. The biography on his profile reads: “GOD has shown you the right path just take it.”
Austin Metcalf, a junior at Memorial High School in Frisco ISD, was attending the UIL District 11-5A championship meet at Kuykendall Stadium when an altercation broke out with Karmelo Anthony, a 17-year-old senior from Centennial High School and the incident occurred around 10 a.m.
Age 17 Austin Metcalf was a standout player for the Frisco Memorial High School Memorial Warriors football team in addition to being a student there. He also competed in track and field events. Anthony, who was to graduate in the Class of 2026, was a 6’0″, 225-pound middle linebacker and fullback for Frisco Memorial, according to his Hudl profile.
Age 17 Austin was remembered as a standout linebacker, team MVP, and a 4.0 GPA student who aspired to play college football and a GoFundMe launched by his father describes Austin as “a bright young man with a great future ahead.”
Jeff Metcalf, the victim’s father, said he was MVP (most valued player) of the football team and had been planning to go to college.
Jeff Metcalf, a realtor, describes himself as a “single dad who loves his sons more than anything” as per his Facebook profile. Austin’s mother was Meghan with him having a twin brother named Hunter as well.
Jeff said Austin’s twin brother, Hunter, saw the stabbing take place and attempted to stop the bleeding and said: “They were twins, identical twins, and his brother was holding on to him, trying to make it stop bleeding, and he died in his brother’s arms. I rushed up there and I saw him on the gurney and I could tell—they said he wasn’t breathing.”
“I’d probably call him a brother,” said Gavin Stites, a friend and football player who claimed to have known Austin since they were little and played on the same soccer squad.
Metcalf was the team’s linebacker, and Stites, a senior, was the quarterback. According to Stites, he could always rely on Metcalf to support him. He claimed that Metcalf, who even played with his twin brother Hunter, was the real star of their football squad.
In an online message, Jeff, Metcalf’s father, stated that his son passed away while in the arms of his twin brother.
“This tragedy has shaken me, family, and friends to the core,” the post reads. “I trust God will bring us through the tough times ahead.”
The principal of Metcalf’s school, Brook Fesco sent a letter to the parents of his fellow students which read, “Tomorrow morning, we will acknowledge Austin’s death during 2nd period and will offer support throughout the day. District and campus counsellors will be available to support your child through the grieving process.”
