Experienced attorney, age 52 Kabita Sarkar is leading the difficult Kolkata ra*e case. She is a Hooghly Mohsin College alumna and has taken up 31 year old, civic volunteer Sanjoy Roy’s legal representation in the well-known RG Kar Medical College ra*e-murder case.

At Alipore Court, she began her civil litigation career. Sarkar changed her practice to criminal law in February 2023 and became a member of the South Asian Legal Services Association (SALSA). She relocated her practice to Sealdah Court in June 2023, and she has been practicing criminal defense there ever since.

Kabita graduated in law from Hooghly Mohsin College and began her legal career at Alipore court, where she focussed on civil cases


Sarkar’s strong conviction in justice and everyone’s right to a fair trial including those accused of terrible crimes led her to decide to take on the RG Kar case. Kolkata ra*e case

At the RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata, on August 9, 2024, a 31-year-old, second year postgraduate trainee doctor was viciously raped and killed. The victim was apparently alone in the seminar hall when the attacker a hospital employee named Sanjoy Roy got entry.

Grim details from the autopsy were revealed by the CBI’s inquiry into the case, which has attracted a great deal of attention and indignation. Roy has been described as having “animal instincts” in a psychoanalytic profile. This description is based on his distant manner and the forensic evidence that was acquired.
