About Atishi
Born on June 8, 1981 in a Hindu family, to Vijay Singh, and Tripta Singh, who were professors at the Delhi University, Atishi’s full name is Atishi Marlena.
She used the Marlena surname instead of Singh as reportedly her father was influenced by Marx and Lenin, and he combined both names to add “Marlena” to Atishi’s name.
However, before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Atishi dropped “Marlena,” surname to avoid any confusion that she might be a Christian, as the opposition party was reportedly making it an issue.

Education
Atishi completed her early education at Springdales School in Delhi and went on to earn a degree from St. Stephen’s College. Later, she went to Oxford University on a Chevening Scholarship, where she obtained a Master’s degree.
As per media reports, Atishi has been associated with AAP since its inception. In 2013, when the party formed a committee to draft its manifesto, Atishi was included, contributing especially to policies related to schools and ensuring their implementation.
From 2015 to 2018, Atishi worked as an advisor to Delhi’s former Deputy Chief Minister, Manish Sisodia, before entering active politics.
Until recently, she was an MLA from Kalkaji and a member of AAP’s Political Affairs Committee (PAC). In 2019, she contested the Lok Sabha elections but was defeated by BJP leader Gautam Gambhir.

Atishi hails from a Punjabi Rajput family and is married to Praveen Singh, who is a researcher and educator. He is associated with institutions like the Sadbhavana Institute of Public Policy.

Praveen Singh studied at IIT Delhi and later at IIM Ahmedabad. He worked for about 8 years in the corporate sector, both in India and the U.S., before transitioning to social service.
As per a affidavit that Atishi submitted during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, she owns movable and immovable assets worth Rs. 1.41 crores, which include her husband’s income.
She has made deposits in various financial firms and has taken fixed deposits. In 2019, she declared that she doesn’t own any property like a car or jewelry.
The gross value of her assets tis worth Rs 1,20,12,824, while the calculated total stands slightly higher at Rs 1,25,12,823 and has cash of Rs 50,000 (self) and Rs 15,000 (spouse), totaling Rs 65,000.
