Usain Bolt’s long-standing record was broken by a 16-year-old Jamaican sprinting phenom at the 51st Carifta Games.
KTV reports that student Nickecoy Bramwell of Calabar High in Kingston broke Bolt’s record. He stormed Kirani James Athletics Stadium in Grenada after winning gold in the under-17 boys 400m event.

Nickecoy Bramwell has recelty stunned the Athletics communtiy with his historical performance. With a time of 47.26 seconds, the 16-year-old broke Usain Bolt’s 22-year record in the boys U17 400m sprint and took home the gold.
Bramwell broke Bolt’s record of 47.33 seconds, which had held for 22 years, by finishing in 47.26 seconds, earning him the gold medal and setting a new world record for his age category.
Among the rivals for the teenager was Kemron Mathlyn from Grenada, who finished in second place with a time of 47.96 seconds, followed by Eagan Neely from the Bahamas in third place with 48.16 seconds.
To secure his place on the podium, the Jamaican surmounted several injury challenges, including a persistent hamstring problem and it has not been so easy for him. Although the student from Calabar High School gave an incredible performance, this isn’t all he has to offer. His booming 46.75-second 400-meter sprint personal best was set earlier this year while competing at his school.
The young Jamaican broke his own record in the 400 metres on January 20th, the same day he achieved a new personal best in the 100 metres with a time of 10.94.
In the 200 metres, a little less than a month later, Bramwell ran a new personal best of 21.45 at Kingston’s National Stadium. During the Corporate Area Development Meet, he competed, and this time was sufficient to win him gold in the Class 2 Finals.
