The tragic conclusion to the search for missing UMass student Flordan Bazile came on January 16, 2024, when his lifeless body was discovered following an extensive ground and water exploration with his cause of death now revealed
UMassDTorch, the campus newspaper, reported that Bazile, a UMass Dartmouth student, was declared missing by UMassD Police on Tuesday morning.

At the time of his disappearance, campus police revealed that the 21-year-old athlete and sprinter for the UMass Dartmouth track team was last seen leaving Pine Dale Hall on the UMass Dartmouth campus around 2 am on January 15.

Subsequently, he was sighted in Fairhaven, MA, near Howland Road and Coggeshall Street. A thorough search, Involving UMassD Police and first responders from neighboring cities and towns, led to the grim discovery of Flordan Bazile’s body in the Acushnet River on Tuesday evening.
As per media reports citing information from the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, reported that Bazile, known as “Flo,” was found dead from an apparent suicide.

University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Chancellor Mark Fuller confirmed Bazile’s passing in an email, describing him as a hard-working, energetic, and champion athlete, as well as a great friend, according to teammates and coaches.
The sophomore at the Charlton College of Business had recently earned accolades, being named Little East Conference Track Athlete and Track Rookie Athlete of the Week.
He had an impressive list of achievements, including winning the Little East Championship and holding the UMass Dartmouth record for the 100-meter dash.
Fuller expressed profound sadness at the loss of this young and talented life, stating that counseling services are available for students and staff at the Counseling Center from 8 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday.
Plans to honor Flo’s memory and celebrate his life on campus will be shared in the coming days, he added. Fuller extended condolences to Flo’s family, friends, teammates, and classmates and provided information for an after-hours support helpline at 508.910.4357.
He also mentioned that the Center for Religious and Spiritual Life has campus ministers available for confidential pastoral counseling from various faith traditions.
