Saud Abdullah Salem Abdulhamid is a Saudi professional footballer who was born on July 18, 1999, in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia in a Muslim family but the names of his parents aren’t known. He mainly plays as a right-back for Serie A club Roma as well as for the Saudi Arabia national team.
As a kid, he played within the Al-Ittihad youth ranks and initially began his professional club career with Al-Ittihad FC as a teenager in 2018. A few years later, he signed a multi-year deal with the Al-Hilal Saudi Club in January 2022 before moving to AS Roma.

Saud Abdulhamid becomes first Saudi to score a European league goal
AS Roma defender Saud recently scored a crucial goal during his team’s 3-0 victory over Portugal’s Sporting Braga, becoming the first Saudi to score a goal in a European competition. The match took pace during a Europa League group stage match on Thursday, December 13, at the iconic Stadio Olimpico. The match started off with Roma opening the scoring in the 10th minute through a Lorenzo Pellegrini goal.
Saud Abdulhamid then scored a second goal for the Italian side early in the 47th minute. Following which, Mario Hermoso scored the final goal, helping Roma secure nine points in the group standings.
Club career
Saud Abdulhamid started out his football journey at the Al-Ittihad youth academy before joining Al-Hilal in 2022. During his time there, he achieved a total of six domestic titles. Owing to his success with the side, Serie A club Roma decided to sign him in August 2024. Just one month later, he made his debut on 26 September, during a 1-1 draw against Athletic Bilbao in the Europa League. He became the first Saudi player to ever feature in a European competition.
Saud Abdulhamid then went on to make his Serie A debut in November as a substitute during a 1-0 away defeat against Napoli. He finally scored his debut goal for the club against S.C. Braga during a 3-0 win in the Europa League. In doing so, he became the first-ever Saudi to score a goal in a European competition.
Aside from his club success, Abdulhamid made his debut for the Saudi Arabia national team in 2019. He played his debut match during a 1-1 draw against Mali. He has since gone on to represent his country at the 2020 Summer Olympics, 2022 FIFA World Cup, and 2023 AFC Asian Cup.
Contract and salary
Saud Abdulhamid joined his current side AS Roma for a €2.5 million one-year deal in 2024. Abdulhamid’s contract with Roma runs up until June 30, 2025, and he earns about €35,577 per week, or about €1.85 million per year.
