In his sixth try at the javelin throw competition, he broke the previous record at the Commonwealth Games with a throw of 90.18 metres. He defeated Anderson Peters, the world champion.

With a Games record distance of 90.18 metres, he earned Pakistan their first javelin gold. Grenada’s Anderson Peters, the world champion, came in second with a throw of 88.64 metres and took home the silver medal, while Kenya’s Julius Yego took home the bronze with a throw of 85.7 metres.

Who Is Arshad Nadeem?
Arshad Nadeem is a well-known Pakistani javelin thrower. He has recently been in the news because he won the gold medal at the Commonwealth Games 2022.
On January 2, 1997, he was born in Khanewal, Punjab, Pakistan.
He is of Punjabi heritage and comes from the agricultural Arain family. His father’s name is Muhammad Ashraf and works as a builder. He was the eldest of five siblings.
From his earliest school years, he was an incredibly versatile athlete. He participated in all of the school’s activities, including football, athletics, badminton, and cricket, but his favourite was cricket, and he quickly started competing in tape-ball events at the district level.
Rasheed Ahmad Saqi noticed Arshad Nadeem when he was in seventh grade and they were competing in sports. He pursued shot put and discus throw in addition to javelin throw before deciding on it.
His height is 1.87 m (6 ft 2 in) and his weight is 95 kg (209 lb). He is 25 years old presently.
His Career
In 2015, Arshad Nadeem began taking part in javelin throw competitions. He was qualified to train at the IAAF High-Performance Training Centre in Mauritius in 2016 thanks to a scholarship he obtained from World Athletics.
At the Islamic Solidarity Games in Baku in May 2017, Nadeem earned a bronze medal with a best throw of 76.33 metres. At the Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia, in August 2018, he took home a bronze medal after setting a new 80.75-meter personal best and national record.
He established a new record in 2019 by throwing an 83.65-meter distance to earn gold for WAPDA in the 33rd National Games in Peshawar. Later, in the 13th South Asian Games in Nepal, he captured the gold medal with a games-record throw of 86.29 metres.
He qualified for the men’s javelin throw event final in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics on August 4, 2021.
Arshad Nadeem was the lone representative of Pakistan at the 2022 World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon, in July of that year. With a throw of 86.16 metres, he managed to finish in fifth place despite having an elbow ailment.
In 2022, he won a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games 2022.
