The 31-year-old Italian skier’s victory came a day after an uncharacteristic performance in a super-G, where she seemed uneasy on the Austrian snow and failed to finish. Reflecting on her emotional journey, Sofia Goggia shared,

Who is Sofia Goggia?

Sofia Goggia is a renowned Italian Alpine ski racer. She has been in the news because she recently won the World Cup downhill competition for the 18th time.

She was born on 15 November 1992 in Bergamo, Lombardy, Italy.

Her height is 1.70 meters, or 5 feet 7 inches, and she is currently 31 years old.

Her career

Sofia Goggia made an impression at the 2013 World Championships, finishing fourth in super-G and eighth in super combined, despite having just four giant slalom starts to her name. The breakthrough came in 2016 with her first World Cup podium in the giant slalom at Killington, followed by a bronze at the World Championships in 2017.

As part of her remarkable 11-podium season, Goggia won her first World Cup in the downhill category in March 2017 in Jeongseon, South Korea. After suffering a fractured ankle in 2018, she made a triumphant comeback at Crans-Montana. In addition to skiing, she represented Italy at the 2026 Winter Olympics as an ambassador.

Sofia Goggia won at Val d’Isère in 2020 and continued her podium run in 2021, winning four races in a row on the downhill course. In 2022, she suffered a knee injury, but she still won silver in Beijing. Goggia proved her supremacy in the 2022–2023 season, winning five downhill matches and winning her fourth Crystal Globe in the World Cup finals.

Her legendary career took a turn for the worse when she was disqualified from the 2023 World Championships. However, she triumphed once more, earning her 18th career victory in the World Cup downhill competition and climbing to fourth place all-time.
