They have emerged as key representatives for the Hindu side. These individuals are Hari Shankar Jain and his son, Vishnu Shankar Jain, both accomplished lawyers.

Due to Hari Shankar’s sickness, the Supreme Court had to postpone the hearing on May 17 even though other significant attorneys like Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, Ranjit Kumar, and C S Vaidyanathan were present. This event highlights his importance in the case.

Who is Hari Shankar Jain?

Hari Shankar Jain is a well-known Hindu nationalist and a Supreme Court lawyer. He has been in the news because he is currently engaged in the ongoing Gyanvapi Masjid-Shringar Gauri dispute case.

Advocate Hari Shankar Jain (born on 27th May 1954) is a practising lawyer from the year 1976 and started his practice from the Lucknow court.

Harishankar Jain’s father Nemchand Jain retired as Additional District Judge from Lucknow in 1989. His father was of secular thinking and mother Vibhavati Jain Ramayani.

Harishankar Jain does not charge fees for advocating for the rights of Hindus and issues related to religious places and is ssociated with organizations like Hindu Samrajya Parishad, Hindu Front for Justice.

Hari Shankar Jain’s importance can be understood from the fact that on May 17, the Supreme Court had to postpone the hearing of Gyanvapi case because Jain was unwell and this happened despite Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, Ranjit Kumar and C S Vaidyanathan representing in the case.

He is a native of Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, and is currently 68 years old. While not much is known about his family, it is known that he has a son named Vishnu Shankar Jain, who is also a well-known lawyer.

In 1976, Hari Shankar Jain began his legal career in Lucknow before moving to New Delhi. He gained national attention in 1993 when, in the Babri dispute, he succeeded in having the Allahabad high court issue a ruling ordering the Babri Mosque to open its doors to Hindus.

Jain has received much praise from India’s Hindu right wing for using the judicial system to further the Hindutva mission. In the lawsuit, he spoke on behalf of the far-right organization Hindu Mahasabha. Moreover, he serves as the leader of the Hindu Front for Justice.
