Achinthya Sivalingan was arrested for participating in pro-Palestinian demonstrations at her campus. Another student named Hassan Sayed was also arrested.
Sivalingam, who was born in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, and raised in Columbus, Ohio, was arrested on Thursday.

Both Achinthya Sivalingan and Hassan Sayed were accused of trespassing and were later on banned from campus. Students who were present at the campus during arrest described it as “violent” and revealed that zip ties were used to restrain them. According to media reports, the two arrested students were forcibly removed from their residences and given less than five minutes to collect their belongings.
Achinthya Sivalingan has extensive experience in political issues, having been involved in various civil society organizations, law, politics, popular movements and private philanthropy. In previous positions, she supported the political initiatives and advocacy efforts of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in relation to the climate adaptation, agricultural development and nutrition portfolio.
Sivalingan ran for Congress in Ohio’s Third District and was also involved in Indian land rights and policy initiatives with the Centre for Policy Studies. However, he was suspended from Princeton University for participating in pro-Palestinian protests and is currently undergoing disciplinary proceedings.

Achinthya Sivalingan’s educational background
Achinthya Sivalingan was born in Coimbatore and raised in Ohio. She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in public relations with a concentration in international development at Princeton University. The university banned her from campus pending disciplinary proceedings.
Students at various colleges and universities across the United States are participating in protests against Israel’s military operations in Gaza.
