Here is all you need to know about the parents of American football player Byron Murphy II
The Seattle Seahawks selected defensive tackle Byron Murphy II of the Texas Longhorns with the 16th overall pick in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft. At his draft party on Thursday night, he was surrounded by his family and friends.
During the first day of the NFL Draft 2024, he thanked his parents for their support throughout his lows. The talented NFL cornerback attributes much of his accomplishments to his parents, Shannon Strickland and Byron Murphy. He said during the event:
They sacrificed so much for me and my (three) brothers.”
Murphy II made his Texas debut in 2021 as a true freshman, starting one game and recording 15 tackles and two sacks in 12 appearances. The youngster had 26 tackles and one sack in 13 games as a sophomore, starting one of them.

Murphy II, the 2023 Outland Trophy winner and joint Big 12 Defensive Lineman of the Year winner with T’Vondre Sweat, and turned pro as a junior. At DeSoto High School in Texas, his parents watched their son grow from a young athlete participating in peewee football to a talented offensive and defensive lineman.
With the 16th overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft, Murphy was chosen by the Seattle Seahawks. While it’s just the start for the NFL rookie’s dream, his parents would be very much proud of him. Here is all you need to know about them.
Who are the parents of Byron Murphy II?
Byron Murphy II was born to Shannon Strickland and Byron Murphy. He was mostly raised by his mother, who gave him a secure upbringing and encouraged his passion for American football.
Not much is known about his parents however, they have always been on their son’s side. Bryon has three brothers.
One of his uncles tragically passed away before the Big 12 Championship Game against Oklahoma State on December 2, 2023. Murphy’s cousins are Justin and Kianna White, who confront the challenges of Morquio syndrome, a form of dwarfism.
Meanwhile, Murphy, a powerful and strong defensive lineman was selected to the second team of the AP All-America last season and won the Big 12 Conference defensive lineman of the year award. Despite Murphy’s 29 stops, 8½ tackles for loss, and five sacks, Texas advanced to the College Football Playoffs but fell to Washington in the semifinals.
